Gold Reef City

This theme park
created around an authentic 19th century Gold mine with underground
tours and a live Gold pour. Gold Reef City is one of the highlights for a family
fun day out and combines amusement rides, restaurants & fine cuisine, historical
exhibits, the Victorian Hotel and Casino to mention a few. There is something on

Apartheid
Museum (Jhb)
This is one of the
Johannesburg’s leading attractions for those visiting the city, this facility
records the history of the former years of oppression under apartheid. The
museums entrance tickets are plastic credit card type tickets with the print
‘Non-white’ or ‘White’. The exhibits include both evocative and challenging
information like pass books, racially tagged identity cards, weapons used, etc.
There are also 121 nooses representing the number of political prisoners hanged
during ‘’Apartheid” era.

It has been
scientifically proven that modern mans DNA lineages can be traced back to
Africa. This is a must for any person wanting to see what science says about our
common family tree.
Cradle of
humankind (World Heritage Site) (Maropeng)
If you prefer to see
first hand some of the sites of the oldest known artefacts of man a trip out to
Maropeng located north of Johannesburg, is a must. With a boat ride starting in
the present and working back through time spanning some 4 billion years.
The Sterkfontein
Caves made famous by the fossil finds and a popular visitor destination are
another highlight in the area.
Lesedi Cultural
Village (Hartebeesport)
The tour starts with
a theatre presentation of the origins and history of the African people, visit
and learn about the diverse cultures at the different villages, Zulu, Xhosa,
Ndebele, Sotho and Pedi. After visiting the different villages, the cultural
tour climaxes with a variety of traditional dances, after which a buffet lunch
is served with traditional dishes from around the African continent.
Constitution
Hill (Jhb)
The seat of the
Constitutional Court it was formerly a prison known as “The Fort” and housed
many famous political prisoners hence the so called “Robben Island” of
Johannesburg is a 100 year old prison and fort complex famous for detaining many
of the liberal forerunners from Mohandas Gandhi to former president Nelson
Mandela and Joe Slovo. One can view the differing menus prisoners were served as
well as the isolation cells which prisoners could be exposed to for any period
from a month to a year in one of these cells.

Another
Aladdin's Cave. Huge showroom of quality curios from all over Southern Africa
and beyond. Phone for appointment and get a taxi, or better still, a tour guide,
to take you, as it's in an industrial area (Cambanos is actually a wholesaler,
not a retailer), and you will never find it yourself. Refreshments and toilets
available.
Lipizzaner (Kyalami)
The South African Lipizzaner perform
every Sunday morning at
10.30am
in their majestic indoor hall in Kyalami.
The performance
lasts about 60min without an interval. Refreshments and memorabilia are
available before and after the performance. Tickets can be booked through
Computicket or bought at the door.
Elephant
Sanctuary Park (Hartebeesport)
Located in the
Magaliesberg Mountains this reserve lies in a malaria free zone plays host to 6
African elephants, impala, klipspringer, baboons, porcupines, leopard and many
other birds species and other small mammals.
There are 2 basic
programs
Early morning grooming 1 ¾ hour interaction
Walk with
them 2 ½ hour interaction
Lunch can be pre
arranged and rides must also be pre-booked.
Lion Park (Muldersdrift)
This is a tour of the
Park to see these magnificent animals in their natural habitat, included in this
experience is a visit to Cub World where one can play with the cubs take photos
and view other animals.

Situated in the World
Heritage site the Cradle of Humankind this reserve plays host to an array of
wildlife species and various nature trails. With stunning photographic
opportunities in the surrounds and visit the Wondercave on the reserve.
De Wildt Cheetah Reserve (Hartebeesport)
The De WIldt Cheetah farm located in the
Magaliesberg on the way to Hartbeespoort Dam this is a breeding facility for
Cheetahs aswell as other endangered species is a privately owned non-profit
organization and is internationally recognized for bringing the Cheetah from the
brink of extinction to off the endangered species list.
Voortrekker
(Pioneer) Monument (Pta)
This is a cultural
memorial which commemorates the role the Voortrekkers played in the history of
the Afrikaner people, the monument was designed by Dr G Moerdyk and the
foundation stone was laid in 1938 some 100 years after the battle of Blood River
(1838) which is depicted by the 64 wagon encircling the monument. The building
was dedicated in 1949 as a national shrine.
The Voortrekker
Museum located in the basement also gives us a closer look at the life and times
of the Voortrekkers and the Great Trek lifestyle.
Smuts House
Museum (Pta)
Doornkloof in Irene
was home to General Jan Christiaan Smuts for some 40 years, this museum reveals
to us the modest dwelling environment of this great statesman who at his core
like us all wanted to live in peace and tranquillity
Melrose House (Pta)
This is a great
example of a Victorian home, it was built as a home for George Heys in 1886 and
his great-great-grandchildren lived in the home until 1967 when it was sold to
the Pretoria City Council complete with furniture, fittings and many other
historically significant items. The City Council restored and opened it to the
public a few years later. The Treaty of Vereeniging was signed on the dinning
room table on 31st May 1902 this treaty saw the end of the Anglo Boer
War.
Kruger Museum (Pta)
Was home t Paul
Kruger the president of the Transvaal Republic for many years was one of the
first houses in Pretoria to have electricity. It was officially opened to the
public on 10th October 1934 (Kruger’s birthday) and 2 years later was
declared a national monument. The monument has many of his personal belongings
like his wagon, stage coach, and his personal railway coach.
Church Square (Pta)
The statue of Paul
Kruger is located in the centre of the square facing North and has on the four
sides of the pedestal are four panels depicting significant milestones in
Kruger’s life. The square was the centre of the town with many commercial
activities like auctions as well as sport to mention but a few. There are 11
national monuments located on the square including some of the first building in
the city.
Sammy Marks
Museum
Zwartkoppies Hall is
seen as one of the great colonial mansions in South Africa, comprises some 48
rooms each filled with authentic Victorian living like the exquisite furniture,
silverware, paintings, etc. All this goes to prove that Sammy Marks was one of
the leading industrialists of his day.
Union Buildings
(Pta)
This is regarded as
Sir Herbert Baker’s finest work the foundation stone was laid in 1910 by the
Duke of Connaught and the whole building was completed in 1913. The Union
Buildings played host to the historic inauguration of the first black president
of the country Mr Nelson Mandela on the 10th May 1994 and the handing
over of the reigns by Nelson Mandela to current president Thabo Mbeki in 1999.
Transvaal
Museum (Pta)
The museum was
established in 1892 has the famous skeleton of the Fin Whale erected in 1970 in
front of the entrance. The museum boasts a Natural Science Museum with a large
selection of fossils including pre-historic man, along with exhibits of
amphibians & insects, reptiles, mammals and birds.
